Saint Elmo - Hikari no Raihôsha (セントエルモ・光の来訪者 Saint Elmo - Apostle of Light ) is a 64-minute television special that though credited to Leiji Matsumoto, it was originally created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Kansai Electric Company who sponsored and produced the film.[1] It was first shown on television in 1987 and afterward was released on VHS.
The name was based on the rare and strange scientific phenomenon called St. Elmo's fire, named after Erasmus of Formiae who is often called "Saint Elmo." The phenomenon occurs in electrical weather at which high points (like masts on ships) will charge and then give off a glow.
